The purpose of the KSU String Project is to promote string playing and teaching.
The Kennesaw State University String Project is an initiative that began in the Fall of 2012. The program is sponsored by and housed at the KSU School of Music. The String Project provides an opportunity for 4th and 5th grade students (as of the 2013-2014 academic year) to receive instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or double bass. In addition, the String Project provides KSU’s undergraduate music education students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on teaching experience under the supervision of a master teacher and their university supervisor.
The String Project classes meet on Sundays from 1:30-3:15 PM at the KSU School of Music.
If your child would like to learn a stringed instrument (violin, viola, cello, or string bass), we urge you to take advantage of this excellent opportunity! Beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, there will be two ability-based levels:
Prelude Strings is intended for beginning students — no prior experience is necessary! In class we will teach students everything they need to know about playing their instrument, including care, music reading, and making a beautiful sound!
Overture Strings is a class for students who have participated for one year in the KSU String Project or have equivalent experience in private lessons or other group instruction.
Registration for Fall Semester (starting September of 2013) is available now! Registrations take place via an online registration system through the KSU Mall. The cost is just $199 per school year, or $110 per semester.
We hope that you will explore our website to learn more about the KSU String Project! Our website has photos and a YouTube channel to show off our students’ progress! As we enter our second year, we are excited to present several ability-based classes and the continued progress of our students.
